Doll things do happen around here!

Though not often. Due to life getting crazy and buy and stressful, well I haven't been doing as much with my dolls as I wanted to. That and the more realistic ones kinda freak out my boyfriend.

But there is good news - Monster High is apparently less freaky than Barbies! Who knew?

So now, I have my whole monster collection out. I've had a couple of doll friends have a rough time of it lately - hopefully pics are fun and bring a little joy. I know looking over at them makes me smile.

I've been working on an fun project with the Kiddo in my life, inspired by the always fabsome My Froggy Stuff. I hope to show it off soon!

Week 2 and 3 of the photo challenges

It took me a while to be able to get pictures, and these ones are inside and my makeshift diorama walls are not tall enough to block the view of my real walls! But I have fun with these, and really wanted to share.

Week 2 - This is What I Do For Work -

Somehow, this guy looks like a smarmy antiques dealer.

Power Team guy tries to drum up sales from my Esmerelda doll, she currently goes by Nadya. And she has no shoes that fit her, so she stands behind things. I think it lends some depth.

Perhaps this lovely shawl? Kiddo assisted in setting up the shop, and then gleefully "bought" everything with his stuffed rabbit, and shoved it in a bin.

Job number 2 is more exotic

She's a rock star! With a tiny guitar!

This is a Barbie head, from a recent set with a rock and roll theme, on a body that was originally Eowyn, or some other Lord of the Rings woman, I think. Arwen maybe? Anyway, I bought her body used. It is more mobile that the one the head came with. All the clothes fit except the silver boots, so she is rocking out in Ken sneakers. Probably better for her feet anyway.

Fun with effects! I like the drama.

Week 3 - My Knight in Shining Armor

Pizza's Ready!

You're the best Eliza! I can barely move.

Can Komodo have some?

I have learned that the lizard is Komodo from a show called Secret Saturdays. I found him in the discount toy bin years ago and felt he needed a good home. Clearly he has one. Pizza is good for lizards, right?

Photo Inspiration : Week 1

Long time no blog! I have a solution though - a doll board I belong to is having weekly themed photo posts. No contest, just a chance to get photos of your dolls and share. So I am!

This week's theme was "My Human and I" and has resulted in a bunch of photos of dolls with pets, babies, and even a 1:1 scale cat!

I grabbed some of my gang, and brought them into work to shoot, because I never seem to be able to manage this on weekends, the only time I am home during daylight!

As a result, the set is minimal, fabric for walls! But I like the photos.

This little one is bringing Bear with her in the traditional position... She is a cheapie knockoff, but she has charm.

Playing with the Farscape props from my action figures. Under scale for 1/6, but not bad given that birds, perches, and robots can be any size. Power Team guy's outfit seemed like something John would wear on the show.

Fun with reflections!

Eliza's friend is allergic, so she is visiting the lizard. Eliza has the first wig I made, and while I love the color, it is rather large and seems to big for her head...

The lizard thinks her boots are stylin'! Her whole outfit is Liv (edit : except the coat of unknown origins), she's got a Liv body and a found at Goodwill Disney Sleeping Beauty head.

Shy blue haired girl needs a name. But she has a lizard! She's allergic to fur. Her wig was made by me, I adore the colors.

The dress is Liv, so is the scarf, from different sets. Lizard is protective...

Shoes are random Barbie Ballet slippers, I think they are Barbie, they are the only ones that fit Pullip feet. Her head is a Marone Obitsu and faceup is by the previous owner, Pandor.

Yet another doll that needs a name. This is the Volks Who's That Girl, with the cute side-glancing eyes. I got her and a ton of oddly matched clothes in the big sale when Volks cancelled the line. The purse is amazing.

Kitty's face does not photograph well, due to the white paint. This is a Little's Pet Shop cat from back when the toys debuted. Note the lack of oversized eyes!

Awwww!

She is rockin' the hat. I think she owns it now. I just need to get up the courage to trim her hair - knee length is a bit much. Then, a name....

So, there are a few of my gang, needing names and characters and all, but I had so much fun actually getting photos for once! I am loving this idea of a weekly photo inspiration.

Legos!

My other big love in toys is Lego. I love building, I love the minifigs... and I love my winter holiday village. I don't buy every set, but I have long wanted the Toy Shop (I missed it in the original release and the secondary market prices were nearly TRIPLE that it originally cost).

Lego has rereleased it, and one is on its way to me, along with the limited holiday set, a Christmas Train!

Contest Entry!

I am entering the Back to School Contest at Requiem Art Designs!

The entry page is here.

Before:

I have always liked my black and white swimsuit Frankie, and got her because I loved the limited edition SSDC doll but also loved the pics I had seen of Frankie's who had been given a bob by their owners.

But the doll had so much gel in her hair that it wouldn't move, and she was looking rather cold in a swimsuit.

After:

And here she is, demonstrating that she can now get her fingers through her hair!

I decided to go less-is-more with the changes, because I really do love the base doll. First I got her head off, and washed out her hair with cool water and some baby shampoo. There were a few stray plugs of hair that needed a trim, but otherwise it just needed all the gel gone.

Then I thought about new colder weather clothes. It is fall here, and the summer swimsuit had to go. I also wanted to keep her balck, white, and grey theme.

I crocheted a cardigan, and ran out of time to make new clothes. Extra clothes bag to the rescue! The turtleneck form Abby's snowboarding set is perfect, and I utterly love the skirt. I have no idea where I got it but I suspect an Operetta clothing pack. I was sad to discover that I had no solid white or black closed-toe shoes. So her one bit of color is the barely risible red music notes on the shoes borrowed form Operetta.

She looks ready to head back to school!

Intro

This is where I plan to gather photos and musings about toys. Mostly Legos and playscale (or 1/6 scale) dolls and action figures. Who knows, I suppose I could end up with dollhouses, but as I have little space to display what I already have... unlikely.

I like being creative. The toys I like are creative. I can build all sorts of things with Legos, and I can make clothes and props for dolls. It's fun, and I'm finally admitting in a at least somewhat public format that this is a hobby I have.

Actual photos and such will be added soon.

Hello World!
